On March 3, 2023 local time, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) released that the global semiconductor industry's sales in January 2023 were $41.3 billion, a decrease of 5.2% compared to $43.6 billion in December 2022, and a decrease of 18.5% compared to $50.7 billion in January 2022.

SIA President and CEO John Neuffer said that while full-year sales in 2022 reached a record high, the global semiconductor market began to decline significantly in the second half of the year, and this trend continued in the first month of 2023.

Looking at the market outlook, John Neuffer pointed out that the semiconductor market is currently experiencing a short cyclical downturn, but because chips play an increasingly important role in various key technologies today and in the future, the semiconductor market still has a lot of potential in the long term.

Regionally, Europe posted a weak month-on-month growth of 0.6% in January, while Japan fell 2.1%, Asia-Pacific fell 2.7%, the Americas fell 7.9%, and China fell 8.0%, with a wide range of month-on-month declines.

On a year-over-year basis, sales in Europe and Japan were up, with Europe up 0.9% and Japan up 0.7%. The Americas declined by 12.4%, Asia-Pacific/All Other regions by 19.5%, and China by 31.6%.
